WHAT IS A TREE?
Acrylic on canvas paper
I asked a blind friend to describe what he thought a tree looked like - and as close as possible to his description this is what he spoke about. Sadly he is unable to see what I painted but he enjoyed talking about trees.
STANDING STONES AT AVEBURY
45cm x 65cm
Acrylic on board
The Avebury Stone Circle needs little introduction - a magical place where history and myth come together to create a vast sacred landscape from the Neolithic Age.
THE HILLS ARE ALIVE
60cm x 50cm
Oil on paper
Walking across Dartmoor in the early morning, I looked across the hills and saw a magnificent tree that was covered in frost and shone almost blue in the light. Every surface was alive with glittering light.
WILD WOOD PATH
40cm x 30cm
Oil on MDF
The forest I walk in regularly always fascinates with its paths and thick foliage. The sunlight and shadows make it appear a different place every time I visit. This painting is the height of summer when the trees and undergrowth are especially lush.
A WANDER IN THE WOODS
58cm x 42cm
Acrylic on canvas paper
Woods offer such scope to a painter - so many ways to paint trees and leaves and the feeling of being surrounded by lush growth.
SUNSET TREES
43cm x 53cm
Acrylic on paper
Sunsets can light up nature like no other time - as these trees show when the evening sun lit them up in amazing colours. Almost unbelieveable in their brightness they just asked to be a picture.
TREE, MOUNTAIN AND STONES
70cm x 90cm
Acrylic on box canvas
Trees without leaves have a wonderful sculptural quality - more like a waving person than a leafless tree.
AUTUMN LEAVES
65cm x 40cm
Acrylic on box canvas
Autumn is just a gift to an artist - everywhere is filled with colourful trees and often unusual coloured leaves as the tree gets ready for the Winter.
Then it all goes quiet and Spring arrives with even more wonderful trees to paint.
THROUGH THE WOODS
00cm x 00cm
Acrylic on canvas board
Woods offer such opportunities to a painter - not just the trees but the light and shadows, the paths. In this painting I have tried to give a feel of the wood rather than faithfully painting every tree.
HIGH SUMMER
50cm x 30cm
Acrylic on canvas paper
Summer is filled with beautiful colours - and not just greens….if you look carefully. Sometimes there are just so many gorgeous images waiting to be painted…like these trees that cried out to be painted.
BEACH HUTS
42cm x 50cm
Acrylic on canvas paper
Not the usual neat row of beach huts, but just three rather tumble down huts which had their own charm. And a beach that was also a bit scrappy - but a wonderful combination to paint.
